The MCR
All postgraduates at Clare are members of the Middle Combination Room (MCR), which is both a physical space in the college as well as the shorthand for Clare’s postgraduate student community.
is located in Old Court (Staircase E) and provides a comfortable space in which postgraduate students can socialise, relax, and study. The MCR is stocked with (free) biscuits, tea and coffee. It also houses the MCR bar, which is student-run and opens on Thursdays and Fridays to accompany various social events (such as gatherings of societies and sports clubs, national celebrations, birthdays etc.). On Friday evenings, the MCR bar is where postgraduates typically gather after their weekly Formal Hall during term time.
The MCR committee looks to the interests of postgraduate students within the wider college community. Committee members are democratically elected by MCR members every year and represent the MCR is various College subcommittees. They host social events for postgraduates throughout the academic year, protect the MCR’s interests within Clare, and generally look after the wellbeing of the postgraduate community.
